Street Smarts
Minneapolis, MN | Adaptive Reuse, Commercial
The redevelopment of this historic coffee warehouse and roastery in Minneapolis’ North Loop district integrates completely with the mix of uses throughout this distinctly urban neighborhood. While the floors above street level are occupied by spacious loft-style apartments that fully exploit the rich character of the exposed heavy timber structure and brick masonry building, the ground level storefronts have been redeveloped to activate and take advantage of the pedestrian experience by opening and framing the historic interiors with their dramatic arched brick demising walls to the street.
The provision of programmed space in the courtyard enriches what might otherwise have simply been another dark alleyway— and missed opportunity—along 2nd Street. Mullberrys is a full-service premium garment care provider with locations throughout the city. PARC is an established women’s wear boutique with a dedicated clientele. Houser is a custom jewelry house. At the rear of the adjacent courtyard is Demi (an offshoot of the Gavin Kaysen’s celebrated Spoon & Stable restaurant) offering an intimate chef’s table experience.

“There are many things we value about working with RoehrSchmitt—their inherent creativity, collaborative approach, attention to detail, and follow-through all come to mind—but what tops the list is they simply love what they do. We feel lucky to have them as partners across a wide array of projects.”
