Southwest High School Natatorium

We took advantage of the existing vertical circulation of the two story high school building and introduced a new mezzanine. This provided separation for competitors and spectators and allowed us to provide the systems needed to warm the former while still providing a comfortable environment for the latter.
The mezzanine is cantilevered off of four massive custom concrete brackets, and fronted with a mullion-less glass railing to provide exceptionally unencumbered viewing of the meets from the raked seating above. New lighting and an undulating acoustical ceiling pays homage to the motion of water and follows the swimming lanes to provide a visual guide for backstroke events.
