Luminate Bank

Minneapolis, MN

Commercial

Located just west of downtown Minneapolis along a primary roadway with almost 250,000 cars passing a day, this compact 4-story mid-century office building presents a prime opportunity for the new Luminate Bank to establish a strong presence in the metro Minneapolis marketplace.

As part of a complete remodeling of the building as corporate headquarters for this new business, RoehrSchmitt provided design for an exterior facelift and new entry experience. Besides repainting the red brick a charcoal gray as a background to dramatic new signage, the most significant element of the exterior work entailed a complete redesign and replacement of the curtain wall defining the primary facade. This new curtainwall eliminates the expressed aluminum mullions of the original glazing system in favor of a sleek, refined wall of mullionless gray glass that blurs the distinction between window and spandrel panels. Reimagining an idea formerly expressed with Doric columns and stone, the monolithic expanse of glass replaces a visually noisy facade with an elegant, graciously proportioned volume that projects a modern take on the clarity and strength befitting a modern bank.
